Akshaya Tritiya (अक्षय तृतीया) — also called Akha Teej — falls on the 3rd day (Tritiya) of the bright fortnight of Vaishakha (April–May). The word 'akshaya' means imperishable — anything begun or given on this day is believed to bring eternal, multiplying blessings.
Unlike most Hindu festivals, Akshaya Tritiya requires no separate muhurta calculation — the entire day is inherently auspicious. It is one of the three-and-a-half most auspicious days (Sade Teen Muhurtas) of the Hindu year.

Buying Gold
The most widespread observance is the purchase of gold jewellery, coins, or bars. Gold bought on this day is believed to grow and multiply — gold dealers across India and the diaspora report their highest single-day sales of the year. Silver, property, and durable goods are also auspicious purchases.
Weddings and New Beginnings
Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most popular days for Hindu weddings — no separate muhurta calculation is needed, making it inherently perfect for marriage. New businesses are launched, homes are entered for the first time, agricultural seasons begun, and long journeys commenced.
Charity and Annadaan
The akshaya nature of the day means charitable acts yield unlimited merit. Feeding the poor, donating clothes, and offering water are especially meritorious. Many temples and organisations hold large-scale food distribution programmes.
Worship and Offerings
